Philips SalonStraight Active Ion Straightener (HP8310) - Review

Hey guys, thought I'd do a review of the Philips SalonStraight hair straightener today.

I got this straightener off of Flipkart last year for Rs.1670. It was on offer so the price was really good. Now I think it costs Rs.1699 on Flipkart but the maximum retail price is Rs.1995.

What it says on the box:
Shine and condition with ionic care.
Gentle on your hair.
Straight results.

The straightener:
The straightener is quite compact and looks very nice. Its black with purple designs on it and the plates are also purple. Purple is my favorite color so I love how it looks!

It has a slide lock on the bottom where the wire is connected making storage easy. It has a two pin plug so you can plug it in anywhere. It has ceramic plates which are supposed to be gentle on your hair. One drawback of this straightener is that it doesn't have a temperature control. Once you switch it on, it will take a few minutes to heat up to 210C which is the constant temperature and can't be changed.

Another property of this straightener is that it uses active ion technology to achieve smooth and frizz free hair.
We all know hair has static. We've all done that experiment where we run a comb through our hair a few times and then take it near paper bits which get attracted to the comb.
Its because of this static and unruly charges on the hair surface that we get frizzy, flyaway hair. These active ions neutralize the static in the hair and make it smooth.

I straightened my hair today after washing it so let me show you guys my experience.

My experience:
This is how my hair looks after its been washed and dried.

I have a mixed hair type as you can see. Its almost straight near the top and gets wavy in the middle and curls at the ends. My hair gets frizzy when its humid but even if it isn't, it still looks pretty big.

I use Sunsilk Keratinology hair spray which is a heat protectant. After making sure the heat protectant is spread evenly all over my hair, I straighten it with the straightener, which takes about 5 minutes to heat up once its been plugged in. I straighten my hair in segments, starting with the top layers and then moving down to the bottom layers.

I need to run the straightener three to four times over the same segment of hair for it to be completely straight. After I'm done straightening, I use the L'Oreal Paris Intense Smooth Serum to make sure my hair gets that finished smooth look.

This is how it looks after I'm done:

As you can see, my hair still has a few waves in it. This straightener doesn't make your hair stick straight but that's alright with me because this gives a more natural look and I'm quite happy with how my hair looks after using this straightener. It also gives your hair a soft shine which I love :)

So if you guys are fine with a few natural waves then this straightener is definitely worth buying! But if you want a straightener that will give you stick straight hair then you might want to look out for another model.

I hope this review was helpful. Please comment if you guys have any further questions :)

Nail Art! ~ Retro Blue Sparkles

Hey guys!

I was just messing around with nail art ideas today and came up with this. I hope you like :)

Steps:

1. Make sure your nails are scrubbed of old nail polish and completely clean.

2. I used blue as my primary color but you can use any color you want. This design will work with pretty much any color.

3. Take the nail polish color of your choice and paint half your nail with it. Add two or three coats so the color is nice, bright and even.

4. Once that is completely dry, then take a black liquid eye liner. That is what I used but if you have black nail polish with a thin brush then that would be even better.

5. Draw big circles on the unpainted part of your nail like this:

6. Draw random circles all over the unpainted part of all the nails.

7. After the eye liner/ nail polish is completely dry, add a clear top coat.

8. Or you could also use clear glitter nail polish like I did.

The top coat will prevent the eye liner from washing off so you don't need to worry about that.

I hope this was helpful. If you guys g=try this out or have some nail art designs of your own then please email them to me :)

NYX Auto Eye Pencil- Acid Green: Review

I bought this eye pencil off of Flipkart.com and it looks like this: -

The color displayed in the box is what its supposed to look like.
This eye pencil cost Rs.175 on Flipkart when I bought it but it lasts a pretty long time.
Since this pencil is automatic, you don't need to sharpen it, just twist the bottom and more comes out so that's something I really like :)

The product itself is smooth and its quite easy to apply on your eyelid. Its not entirely waterproof but it does stay for the whole day so that's good. But since the color is light, you need to apply it twice to be able to see it clearly.
This is how it looks with two coats:-

I use this color whenever I'm wearing dark/light greens and yellows. But you could wear it with blacks and whites and even with purple if you're going for a more funkier look :)

I hope this helps!

Jovees Kajal: Review

I bought a tube of Jovees Kajal recently. I was in serious need of a Kajal stick, because my Lakme' one ran out. This is what it looks like:

I am loving this product for so many reasons! Let me list them out:

1. Though its price is a little high, I think its completely worth it because it lasts a really long time.

2. It has a rotating cylinder at the bottom (similar to lipstick) so no need of messy sharpening.

3. The color is really dark and bold even with just a single swipe.

4. The Kajal lasts the whole day and there's no need to touch it up during the day (unless you wash your face).

5. It doesn't make your eyes burn even when applied directly to the waterline.

6. Its made with natural ingredients so its not harmful for your skin.

The one downside to this product is that it does smudge a little on really humid days or if you apply a really thick coat so you might need to be careful about that.

Its also not completely waterproof but I'm actually happy with that because I don't need a separate make up remover to take it off and it just washes off with normal soap.

All in all, this is a great product for everyday use and you guys should really check it out! :)

Herbal Essences Long Term Relationship Shampoo: Review

I''ve been using this shampoo for the past one year and I've got to say its quite a find, as far as shampoos go.

What it claims:
ready for long hair care that goes the distance? our formula is fused with red raspberry and Brazilian silk and our shampoo and conditioner uses hydro-activated silkening blends. to get long, satin-soft hair, engage every strand in a long term relationship. go ahead, grow your hair as long as you dare.

when it comes to long hair care, you don’t have to compromise. our hydro-activated ingredients help keep your hair in optimal condition, so you can grow it as long as you want. we’re going to be very happy together.

Appearance:
The shampoo is quite thick and a violet-pink color.

My experience:
First, I would like to say that I love the smell of this shampoo and it isn't too overpowering either. It lingers for a few days after you wash your hair which is also quite nice. But since the shampoo is of a thick consistency, you have to dilute it with water before you can apply it onto your hair. Applying it directly makes it difficult to get a sufficient amount of lather. Though this shampoo is supposed to be specifically designed for long hair, I had short hair when I started using it and I found that it was actually helping my hair grow faster as well as nourishing it. After washing my hair with this shampoo, it felt soft and smooth to the touch which was very impressive because my hair is dry and frizzy by nature.

The only downside of this shampoo, and this is my personal opinion, is that no matter how much you dilute it, you still get a small amount of build up near your roots so I wouldn't recommend that you use this shampoo everyday. I myself use it twice a week and it has given me good results. But if you have a dandruff problem, then STAY AWAY! The build up near your roots makes the skin more flaky and it worsens the problem.

But if you have long hair, or if you wish to grow your hair then this shampoo is quite good and you could give it a try.

Pros:

1. Nourishes long hair and makes short hair grow faster
2. Good smell, not too overpowering
3. Makes hair smooth and soft after just a few washes

Cons:

1. Consistency is quite thick
2. Build up near the roots
3. Isn't a good shampoo for people with dandruff

I hope some of you may have found this review helpful. Please leave a comment about this review or if you guys have come across a better shampoo for long hair. I'm getting bored and would like to try something new! :)

Himalaya Neem Face Wash and Scrub: Review

At the end of last year, I had a really horrible break out. There were huge pimples all over my face and I was totally freaked because I hadn’t had an acne problem for the past two years. I was using the same products as before and couldn’t understand why I was getting so many pimples all of a sudden.
My mom suggested I try the Himalaya Neem Face Wash because it claimed to completely get rid of pimples. I went out and bought a tube of that and also the Neem scrub.

What it claims:
Purifying Neem Face Wash is a soap-free herbal formulation that gently removes impurities and prevents pimples. Enriched with Neem and Turmeric.
Neem , well known for its antibacterial properties, helps in controlling acne and pimples, and their recurrence.
Further, when combined with Turmeric , it effectively eliminates acne-causing bacteria.
Indications:
Clears skin, prevents pimples
My experience:
When I first started using this, my skin felt less oily and the pimples were getting smaller so I thought that it was working. But after a week, the face wash started making my face really dry, and when the skin gets really dry it starts producing more oil to compensate for that dryness and that is exactly what happened. My face became so oily that I had to wash it like every two hours just to prevent the griminess. All my friends started asking me why my skin was always so oily and how it was only going to make my pimples worse.
I mentioned that my pimples started reducing in size, and you might think it was working. But what actually happened was that now my entire face was covered in small whiteheads that hurt like hell. I had to sleep facing up because if my face touched the pillow, my skin started burning because of all the whiteheads. I honestly couldn’t tell if this was an improvement or not.
The scrub didn’t help either and only succeeded in making my skin much drier if that was possible and my face had red splotches all over it after i washed the scrub off.
I finally decided to go back to the products I was using before and remarkably, my skin cleared and now it looks normal and pimple free.
I’m not sure whether it was because my skin was allergic to the neem face wash or I should have stuck to it and the results would only be visible over a long term but I’m so glad I stopped using them when I did.
Pros:
1. Nice gel like consistency
2. Good smell
3. Good, sturdy packaging
Cons:
1.Did not get rid of pimples
2.Made my skin dry
So all in all, I will definitely not be purchasing this product again.
